Every item on this page clears one bar: not commonplace, not everywhere. These are real, named resources with an actual verified designation, accreditation, or documented distinction — not a generic "has a hospital" or "has a shelter" list. A shorter, accurate list beats a padded one, the same honesty standard used throughout this site.

Utah's Hogle Zoo
Utah's Hogle Zoo, open at its current Salt Lake City foothills location since 1931, is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, a national accreditation held by only a small fraction of USDA-licensed animal exhibitors nationwide. The zoo's Rocky Shores exhibit, home to polar bears, grizzly bears, and sea lions, opened in 2014 as one of its largest habitat expansions.
