Hill Air Force Base

Hill Air Force Base, established in 1940 on farmland at Layton's southern edge, remains one of Utah's largest employers today. It houses the Ogden Air Logistics Complex, one of only three Air Force Sustainment Center depot-maintenance hubs in the country (alongside Oklahoma's Tinker Air Force Base and Georgia's Robins Air Force Base), which performs depot-level maintenance, repair, and overhaul work the Air Force can't do at a typical operating base. Hill's 34th Fighter Squadron became the Air Force's first combat-ready F-35A unit, declaring Initial Operational Capability in August 2016.
