Huntsman Cancer Institute
Huntsman Cancer Institute, at the University of Utah, holds Comprehensive Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute -- the only such designation in a catchment area that includes Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming. NCI Comprehensive status requires a level of clinical, laboratory, and population-science research infrastructure most cancer treatment centers don't carry.
Intermountain Medical Center
Intermountain Medical Center, Intermountain Health's 504-bed flagship hospital on a 100-acre campus in Murray, carries Level I trauma center verification from the American College of Surgeons and serves as a referral hospital for the entire Wasatch Front corridor, downtown Salt Lake City, and the University of Utah. The hospital opened in 2007 on a site previously used as an Asarco lead smelter, cleaned up through an EPA Superfund process before construction began.
Primary Children's Hospital
Primary Children's Hospital, Intermountain Health's flagship pediatric hospital near the University of Utah campus, carries Level I pediatric trauma center verification and serves as the referral hospital for pediatric specialty care -- cardiac surgery, transplant, and neonatal intensive care among them -- across a multi-state Intermountain region extending into Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming, the same multi-state pattern Intermountain's adult flagship hospital in Murray follows.
