The state's own earthquake-monitoring network is run out of the University of Utah, whose seismograph program also holds a seat monitoring an active volcanic system three states away -- a genuine two-hazard role few university geology departments carry.
University of Utah Seismograph Stations
University of Utah Seismograph Stations (UUSS) operates the seismic monitoring network for the Wasatch Front and the rest of Utah, coordinating with the Utah Geological Survey and Utah Division of Emergency Management under the state's Utah Earthquake Program. UUSS is also one of the member institutions of the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory consortium, giving it a dual role most university seismology programs don't have: monitoring both a major urban earthquake fault and an active volcanic system. The Wasatch Fault itself carries a widely cited 57% probability of a magnitude 6.0-or-greater earthquake within the next 50 years, and the most recent notable local event was a magnitude 5.7 earthquake near Magna, Utah, on March 18, 2020.
