Tinker Air Force Base

Tinker Air Force Base, straddling Midwest City and Del City, is the largest single-site employer in Oklahoma, with more than 26,000 military and civilian employees across 760 buildings and 15.2 million square feet of floor space. Alongside its own 72nd Air Base Wing, 552nd Air Control Wing (E-3 Sentry AWACS aircraft), and the Air Force Reserve's 507th Air Refueling Wing, Tinker also hosts the U.S. Navy's Strategic Communications Wing One, which operates the E-6 Mercury fleet with more than 1,300 active-duty sailors — a full Navy wing stationed on an Air Force base, genuinely uncommon outside a handful of joint installations nationwide. Base-area families are zoned to the Mid-Del School District.
