Senior & Elder Care

This is a category that's thin in a lot of metros, but one Columbus resource clears the bar outright: a documented "first" dating to 1898 that's grown into one of the five largest Meals-on-Wheels operations in the country.

Every item on this page clears one bar: not commonplace, not everywhere. These are real, named resources with an actual verified designation, accreditation, or documented distinction — not a generic "has a hospital" or "has a park" list. A shorter, accurate list beats a padded one, the same honesty standard used throughout this site.
Founded 1898 as Ohio's first Visiting Nurse Association; now one of the 5 largest Meals-on-Wheels providers in the U.S.

LifeCare Alliance

LifeCare Alliance traces back to 1898, when it was founded in Columbus as the Instructive District Nursing Association -- Columbus's first in-home health care agency and Ohio's first Visiting Nurse Association, services it still provides today through its Visiting Nurses program. The organization now produces more than 6,000 Meals-on-Wheels meals and 2,000 Meals-for-Kids each day out of a production kitchen originally built to handle 2,000 meals total, making it one of the five largest Meals-on-Wheels providers in the United States, according to the organization's own history page.
