1. Who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy describes how The New Place, Inc. ("TheNewPlace.com," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use thenewplace.com and any related apps or installed web-app versions (the "Service"). It applies to visitors, registered users (if and when account creation becomes available), and anyone who contacts us directly — for example, to report an error on a guide or suggest a metro for us to cover.

The Service publishes neighborhood and local-market guide content for select U.S. metro areas. We do not operate property listings, buyer or seller representation, tour scheduling, agent referral, or mortgage/pre-qualification tools. The Service is directed at users located in the United States and is not directed at, and is not intended for, individuals located outside the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, we still process the limited technical information needed to deliver the pages you request, as described below.

Your use of the Service is governed by our Terms of Service. If you do not want us to handle information as described in this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide directly

2.2 Information collected automatically

2.3 Information from third parties

2.4 Information we do not collect

We do not collect Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, payment card or bank account numbers, precise GPS location, biometric data, or health data. We do not run a mortgage calculator or pre-qualification form. We do not knowingly collect information from children (see Section 8, Children's privacy).

2.5 Notice at collection (California)

This table summarizes, for California residents, the categories of personal information described above:

3. Cookies, analytics, and advertising

We and our partners use cookies, pixels, local storage, and similar technologies. Here's what's actually active today, and what's planned:

Your choices:

California/GDPR-style "sale" or "sharing" of data: Under California law (and similarly under some other state laws), allowing ad partners like Google to use cookies for personalized/interest-based advertising can legally count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, even though no money changes hands for your specific data. Because Google AdSense is active on the Service, this may apply to our advertising cookies. Cloudflare Web Analytics, our separate analytics tool, still doesn't use cookies or identify you across sites and isn't affected. You can opt out of this "sale" or "sharing" at any time — see Section 7 — and we'll honor that request going forward.

4. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

We do not use inbound emails to build a marketing list unless you separately opt in.

For users in jurisdictions that require a stated legal basis for processing personal data, we process your information based on: your consent (e.g., cookies, marketing communications), performance of steps you request (e.g., responding to a message you've sent us), our legitimate interests (e.g., improving the Service, preventing fraud), and compliance with legal obligations. Because the Service is directed at users in the United States, this section applies mainly to the extent a non-U.S. law requires us to state a legal basis.

6. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not send your email address to real estate agents, lenders, or lead buyers — we don't have any of those relationships. We do share information in the following circumstances:

6.1 With service providers

We share information with vendors who process it on our behalf. That may include hosting and content-delivery (Cloudflare), analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics), advertising networks (including Google, once that relationship is active), email delivery, and customer support tools. These providers are only permitted to use your information to provide services to us.

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

6.3 Business transfers

If we're involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you (e.g., via notice on the Service) of any change in ownership or use of your personal information.

6.4 Aggregated or de-identified data

We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, for purposes such as market analysis or reporting.

7. Your privacy rights and choices

7.1 General choices, available to all users

7.2 California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

How to opt out of sale/sharing. Because Google AdSense is active on the Service (Section 3), our advertising cookies may count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under this definition. Use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the site footer, or email us at the address in Section 15 with the subject line "California Privacy Request," to opt out — we'll honor that request going forward. We do not currently process Global Privacy Control or similar automated signals (see Section 3); if that changes, a GPC signal from your browser will be treated as an opt-out request for that browser.

Authorized agents. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf. We may require proof of the agent's authorization and may still need to verify your identity directly.

Sensitive personal information. We don't collect or use CPRA "sensitive personal information" in a way that would require offering a right to limit its use.

We will not deny service, charge a different price, or provide a different quality of service for exercising your rights.

California's "Shine the Light" law: California residents may separately request information about our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We do not currently disclose information for third parties' own direct marketing purposes; if that changes, this section will be updated.

7.3 Other state privacy laws

As of the date of this policy, the following states also have comprehensive consumer privacy laws that may give their residents similar rights — to know, access, correct, delete, and opt out of the sale/sharing of personal information and targeted advertising: Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Vermont. More states are expected to pass similar laws over time; this list reflects our understanding as of the "Last updated" date above. Rights and definitions (including what counts as a "sale," "sharing," or targeted advertising) vary by state. To exercise applicable rights, email us at the address in Section 15 and tell us your state of residence; we'll handle the request under the law that applies to you.

7.4 Nevada residents

Nevada residents may submit a request directing us not to sell certain covered information, though we do not currently sell personal information as defined under Nevada law. Email us at the address in Section 15 to submit such a request.

7.5 Appeals

If we decline a privacy request and the law of your state gives you a right to appeal that decision, reply to our response with "Privacy Appeal" in the subject line. We'll review the appeal and respond as required by applicable law. If you still disagree with the outcome, you may be able to contact your state attorney general's office.

8. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable state law sets a higher age for consent to data "sharing"). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

9. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encrypting data in transit (HTTPS) and limiting employee and contractor access to what's needed to operate the Service. If we introduce accounts, passwords will be stored hashed, never in plain text. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Data retention

Email us at the address in Section 15 if you'd like more detail about a specific category of information.

Our guides link to the government agencies, transit authorities, school districts, and other third-party sources we cite, as well as to other outside sites from time to time. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with information.

12. Accuracy of information; no warranty

Our neighborhood and market guides are compiled from public sources and other third-party data and are provided for general informational purposes only — they're not a substitute for independent verification, professional advice, or your own due diligence. The full disclaimer, including the "as is" / no-warranty terms governing use of the Service, is set out in our Terms of Service, which apply alongside this Privacy Policy.

13. Fair housing note

TheNewPlace.com is committed to the letter and spirit of U.S. fair housing laws. This document addresses privacy specifically; a separate Equal Housing Opportunity / non-discrimination statement governs how our guide content and advertising are presented, and isn't a substitute for legal advice on advertising compliance. This Privacy Policy does not govern how our neighborhood descriptions are written — that's addressed in our Terms of Service and our Equal Housing Opportunity statement.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we change this policy, the new version applies to information we handle after its effective date. If we make material changes — including material changes to how we use cookies, analytics, or advertising — we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where required by law, provide additional notice (such as a banner on the Service).

15. Contact us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to exercise a privacy right described above, contact us at:

The New Place, Inc. Email: support@TheNewPlace.com

We're an online-only business at this stage, so email is our primary and fastest contact channel; we'll add a mailing address here if that changes.
