This is a list of facts, not a ranking. The table below is listed alphabetically by metro, the same neutral order used on the property-tax comparison page — we're not calling any of these climates "best." Milder winters and hotter summers are trade-offs a person weighs for themselves; the numbers speak for themselves regardless of which trade-off you'd make.

These are single anchor-city figures, and every metro on this site has real variation across its own neighborhoods and suburbs — a station reading in one part of a metro can differ by a few degrees from another, even at similar distance from downtown. A note on what "normal" means here

NOAA's 1991–2020 normals are 30-year averages, not a forecast or a guarantee for any specific year — an unusually hot summer or a cold snap can fall well outside these figures, and normals themselves get revised roughly every ten years as NOAA rolls the averaging window forward. Treat these as a long-run baseline for comparing metros, not a prediction of next year's weather.
