Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience
The Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience opened in Jupiter after Palm Beach County, the Town of Jupiter, and the state began recruiting it in 2004 — the German Max Planck Society's only U.S. institute. Sitting alongside Scripps Research's Florida campus, Nature Index ranks the pair as the world's top two stand-alone scientific institutes for biomedical research, and Florida Trend describes Jupiter as "the only place on the planet" where two research institutions of that caliber are co-located.
Pratt & Whitney Research & Development Center
Pratt & Whitney opened a jet- and rocket-engine research and testing plant in northern Palm Beach County in 1958, drawing enough aerospace engineers and their families to shape North Palm Beach's early housing stock — a specialized aerospace testing operation with nearly 70 years of continuous operation in a county otherwise not known for heavy industry.
Scripps Research Institute, Florida
Scripps Research relocated a Florida campus to Jupiter in 2006 as the anchor investment behind the county's life-sciences push, which now includes more than 700 biotech, medical-device, and pharmaceutical companies; in a single recent year the cluster drove company expansions adding more than 330 jobs, over 250,000 square feet of space, and more than $100 million in local investment, per the county's own Business Development Board.
