Medical Specialty Care in Las Vegas

Las Vegas's medical specialty care goes well beyond routine hospitals -- the metro now holds two ACS-verified Level I Trauma Centers, Nevada's only dedicated burn unit and only organ transplant program, and a nationally known brain-health center in the state's sole Frank Gehry building, each a genuine, checkable designation rather than a generic 'has a hospital' claim.

Every item on this page clears one bar: not commonplace, not everywhere. These are real, named resources with their actual verified designation or certification — not a generic "has a hospital" or "has a gym" list. We left out anything we couldn't independently verify or that didn't clearly clear that bar, the same honesty rule used throughout this site — a shorter, accurate list beats a padded one.

Nevada's largest and most comprehensive pediatric hospital program

Sunrise Children's Hospital

Sunrise Children's Hospital, based within Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, describes itself as Nevada's first children's hospital and the largest and most comprehensive children's hospital in the state, operating a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, dedicated pediatric intensive care units, and one of the largest pediatric cardiology programs in the western U.S.

Nevada's only organ transplant center

UMC Center for Transplantation

Since performing Nevada's first kidney transplant in 1989, UMC's Center for Transplantation has continued to serve as the only organ transplant center in the state, coordinating living-donor and deceased-donor kidney transplants through a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

Nevada's only verified burn center

UMC Lions Burn Care Center

UMC also operates Nevada's only verified burn care center, treating the most severe adult and pediatric burn injuries in the state rather than referring them out of state.

Nevada's only nonprofit Level I Trauma Center

University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) Trauma Center

UMC's Trauma Center holds Nevada's only nonprofit Level I Trauma Center designation, the highest level under the American College of Surgeons' verification system, and is also home to Nevada's only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, also in Las Vegas, separately achieved ACS-verified Level I Trauma Center status for adult trauma in April 2026, so the two hospitals are now Nevada's only Level I centers.
