What Desert Ridge is actually like
The State of Arizona, the City of Phoenix, and a master developer partnered on the Specific Plan adopted in 1991, with land acquisition following in 1993. Desert Ridge broke from the pattern of incremental subdivision building by planning employment centers, resort hospitality, and retail alongside housing from the outset: Mayo Clinic Hospital opened on a 210-acre campus in 1998, the 1.2-million-square-foot Desert Ridge Marketplace followed in 2001, the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in 2002, and the Musical Instrument Museum in 2010. American Express later built a regional campus in the community, and CityNorth rose nearby.
Desert Ridge is projected to hold more than 50,000 residents at full buildout, with nearly 4,000 homes already built across a mix of condominiums, townhomes, and single-family gated communities near the Loop 101/SR-51 interchange. It draws corporate employees, healthcare workers tied to Mayo Clinic, and families drawn to the master-planned amenities — golf at Wildfire Golf Club, retail at the Marketplace, and resort access. It's one of the newer places in this guide, with essentially no housing stock predating the mid-1990s.
