USDA Forest Service-designated Children's Forest (2011)

W.G. Jones State Forest

This 1,722-acre working forest bordering The Woodlands and Conroe is managed by Texas A&M Forest Service for research and demonstration in forest management, and in 2011 became the 18th nationally recognized Children's Forest designated by the USDA Forest Service.

20,000+ acres of protected coastal prairie

Katy Prairie Conservancy

Founded in 1992, Katy Prairie Conservancy has protected more than 20,000 acres of the historic Katy Prairie ecosystem west of Houston across Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties, preserving coastal prairie habitat while supporting local farming, ranching, and public recreation access.
