Houston Kashruth Association (HKA)
A nonprofit kosher supervision agency operating for more than 40 years, HKA certifies restaurants, caterers, bakeries, and manufacturing facilities throughout Houston, publishes the local Kosher Guide, and belongs to the national Association of Kashrus Organizations (AKO).
Mahatma Gandhi District
Centered on Hillcroft Avenue and Harwin Drive, this South Asian commercial enclave was officially named the Mahatma Gandhi District by Houston Mayor Annise Parker and India's Consul General on January 16, 2010, and concentrates Indian and Pakistani restaurants, grocers, and sari/jewelry shops.
Asiatown (Bellaire Boulevard "New Chinatown")
After Houston's original downtown Chinatown was displaced by freeway and convention-center construction in the 1970s-80s, Chinese entrepreneurs built a "New Chinatown" along Bellaire Boulevard between Beltway 8 and the Southwest Freeway, now a dense corridor of Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, and Thai businesses anchored by the Houston Chinese Community Center.
Gluten Free Sourdough Bakery
Based in the Fairfield area of Cypress, this bakery operates out of a dedicated gluten-free kitchen under Texas cottage food law, using only flours certified or manufacturer-verified gluten-free for its sourdough breads and baked goods.
