Houston metro punches well above its weight in the arts, home to a Tony Award-winning regional theatre, the nation's largest African-American-owned professional theatre company, and an internationally recognized art sanctuary. The Woodlands also hosts the world's highest-grossing outdoor amphitheater by ticket sales.

Alley Theatre

Founded in 1947 in downtown Houston, the Alley Theatre won the Regional Theatre Tony Award in 1996, one of the only Texas theatres to receive Broadway's top honor for a regional company, and has toured productions to 40 American cities and abroad.

Rothko Chapel

Completed in 1971 in the Montrose area and founded by John and Dominique de Menil, this non-denominational sanctuary houses fourteen monumental Mark Rothko paintings and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 16, 2000; it draws roughly 110,000 visitors a year for contemplation and interfaith exchange.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

This outdoor amphitheater in The Woodlands sold 268,693 tickets between November 2022 and August 2023, earning the No. 1 spot on Pollstar's worldwide amphitheater ranking by tickets sold and No. 2 globally in gross sales that period.
