The Wild Animal Sanctuary

The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, about 40 miles northeast of Denver, spans more than 40,000 acres and represents the largest carnivore sanctuary in the world, home to more than 750 rescued lions, tigers, bears, wolves, and other large carnivores rescued from abuse and neglect.

One of Colorado's first no-kill animal shelters

True Companions Animal Shelter & Clinic (formerly MaxFund)

Founded in 1987 by veterinarian Dr. Bill Suro and his wife Nanci as MaxFund, this Denver shelter was one of the first in Colorado built on a no-kill commitment — that no healthy or treatable animal will be euthanized — years before “no-kill” became a mainstream shelter standard.
