Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center — Trauma Center
Carolinas Medical Center is the only Level I trauma center in the Charlotte region, verified and reverified by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (most recently in November 2024) — the most rigorous of the ACS's trauma-center classifications, requiring round-the-clock in-house surgical specialists and a formal research and outreach mission.
Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital
Levine Children's Hospital has been named a U.S. News & World Report "Best Children's Hospital" for 15 consecutive years, with national rankings across multiple pediatric specialties (including Top 10 rankings) and the No. 1 spot among children's hospitals in North Carolina.
Atrium Health Levine Cancer Proton & Advanced Radiation Center
This Charlotte center, which began treating patients in 2024, is the first and only facility in North or South Carolina offering proton beam therapy — one of fewer than 50 such centers nationwide — using a 110-ton cyclotron proton accelerator, and it also offers Gamma Knife radiosurgery for complex brain lesions.
Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center — Transplant Program
Carolinas Medical Center is an approved transplant center for heart, kidney, pancreas, and liver, performing 200+ transplants a year; it is the only designated liver transplant program in the Greater Charlotte region (with more than 1,700 liver transplants performed to date) and ranks among the nation's top 20 hospitals by heart-transplant volume.
